The Root features original artwork throughout its space. We would like to thank Chef’s Garden (Huron, OH), Water Street Coffee Roaster (Kalamazoo, MI), and Fortune Fish (Bensenville, IL) for allowing us to take these photographs on-site. Regina Mamou, sister of Owner Ed Mamou, was born in the Detroit metropolitan area and is currently a Chicago-based visual artist. In 2009 she received a 15-month Fulbright Fellowship to Jordan to explore navigational methods and memory in Amman through photography and video. She holds an MFA (2007) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA (2005) from Rhode Island School of Design. She has exhibited in the Middle East and throughout the U.S. Her artwork can be viewed online at reginamamou.com.

Paintings
Nicole Carlson was born in 1983 in Flint, Michigan and raised in Howell. She received her BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids in 2006 where she was awarded the top scholarship in painting. In 2008 she completed her MFA from Parsons in New York City. Her work was shown at the Kitchen in Chelsea. Nicole currently lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She may be contacted via email at nicole.marie.carlson@gmail.com.
